The Claus process is used to remove most of the H2S in acid gas and to recover elemental sulfur. The residual H2S in the tail gas is then completely converted to SO2 through incineration before the tail gas is sent to the ammonia desulfurization system to remove SO2 and produce ammonium sulfate. This simple and efficient process has the advantages of no secondary pollution, operational stability, and low capital and operating costs. Conventional tail gas treatment units (TGTU) can be conveniently replaced by the ammonia desulfurization unit to reduce operating cost and pollutant emissions.
